So, you have a pretty good idea of how Excel works but are sure there just have to be better and quicker ways of doing things?  You are so right - anything you think you might want to do in Excel has already been considered and built into the package and many - many - things you have no idea it can do are just waiting to be discovered.  Whether you do accounts or are a rocket scientist, Excel will do any calculations you can imagine - and many you can't.

Perhaps you need to create a worksheet that others can utilise? Learn how to create hidden formulas that simply update values, use data validation or comments to guide them along the way, and then protect the document to make it tamper proof. Take large amounts of data and manipulate it in a way that is easy for others to understand.

We often find that delegates attend the advanced courses without sufficient background to an intermediate level, which means that they don’t get the full benefit of the course – which is always sad.

This is particularly so with Excel where we like potential delegates to be aware of the following pre-requisites –

  • you are comfortable with writing basic formulas and functions - eg +  -   *  /  =sum
  • you can happily format a document, including borders, fonts, styles etc
  • you work in Excel at least once a week (absolute minimum!)
  • you are comfortable printing
  • you must be able to create your own spreadsheets from scratch
  • you have a need to learn more about the functionalities

Windows Basics

Stop your mouse being a rat! Windows is an integral part of learning any other application, as it gives a good understanding of hardware like the mouse, the keyboard and screen. Terminology is explained, trainees learn how to move around and how to access things.
